This is literally a question I get asked every week. Instagram is a great tool for direct marketing, and of course you want to optimise your efforts as much as possible. The problem with Instagram is that everyone is on there - including all your competitors. So to get seen and gain followers you have to not only post great content, but post it at the perfect time, so that the algorithm shows it to as many people as possible. Sprout Social, a social media management platform, used it's large database of customers (20k+!) to analyse the posts that were the most successful. Here are their findings in a chart, courtesy of Sprout Social:

To summarise: On average, the best time to post on Instagram is Tuesday, 11 am - 2 pm CDT. More generally, all weekdays between 11 and 2 pm is the optimal time window to get higher engagement. Why is this the case? Think about how people use Instagram - you probably get up in the morning, check it at some point before you start working, then you spend a few hours working, and then allow yourself to get a little distracted as you get closer to lunch. In order to maximise your engagement in the 11-2 window, consider posting in the morning (especially if you have some following already). That way your post can pick up some speed and, by 11 am, get pushed out to all those people approaching their lunchtime scroll. Sprout Social also looked into the best time per industry, and here are the results for the tech industry:
Best time in generak: Monday, 10 am - 10 pm
Most consistent engagement: Monday - Friday, 8 am - 6 pm
Best day: Monday
Worst day: Sunday
Hope this helps!
